Bipartisan Bill to Reduce Months Long Backlog for Commercial DMV Licenses Passes First Committee

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO – Legislation aimed at reducing a severe backlog at the Department of Motor Vehicles for people desperate to take their commercial driver’s license test was approved in the Assembly Transportation Committee Monday.

AB 301 (Rodriguez/Patterson) is a bi-partisan bill that requires the DMV to test trained truck and bus drivers no more than 7 days after they request an appointment. Some students have waited as long as 12 weeks for a test date, resulting in lost job opportunities and economic activity in California.

The bill also requires DMV to report to the legislature by June 2018 how they plan to achieve the 7-day maximum wait time.

It has the support of countless trucking associations and schools throughout California. The complete list is below.

AB 301 moves to Assembly Appropriations for further consideration.
