Nearly one year ago, California made the difficult decision to close schools and move to on-line learning in an effort to manage the COVID-19 pandemic. This created new and unexpected challenges for millions of California parents and students, impacts we must work to correct.
Today, I proudly voted to support a $6.6 billion plan to quickly, safely, and fairly reopen our schools; including those in the 52nd Assembly District. Billions of dollars will be invested in health and safety improvements, including essential P.P.E. for teachers and regular COVID-19 testing. Equally important is the billions we’re allocating for expanded learning like summer school, tutoring, and mental health services to help our students recover.
In-person learning is essential to the success of our students and this plan will help our youngest learners return, while still leaving decisions up to local Districts. We are accelerating funding as the State continues to successfully rollout vaccinations across every county.
