Assemblymember Rodriguez Presents State Budget Allocations Checks Totaling $13.9 Million at Pomona Unified School District

(Pomona, CA) – Today, Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D – Pomona) returned to his alma mater, Garey High School, to present checks for two funding allocations he championed on behalf of Pomona Unified School District in the 2022-23 State Budget. This record-breaking funding totals $13.9 million and will directly benefit Pomona Unified students.

“Today was a great day as I was able to give back to the school district that helped to shape not only myself but also my children and now my grandchildren. This substantial funding will bring resources to help students express themselves and find pathways toward their true passions,” stated Assemblymember Rodriguez.

The first check presented today will fund the renovation and creation of performance and production spaces at five school sites throughout Pomona Unified. A total of $10.5 million will go toward funding these projects.

The second check presented will fund the expansion of workforce development and career exploration for students. This funding totals $3.4 million. Of this total funding, $1 million will cover the cost of workforce and career development within the manufacturing industry. The other $2.4 million will cover the cost of workforce and career development within the medical field.

“I want to thank the faculty and students at Pomona Unified for giving me such a warm welcome today. I felt right at home being back at my old school. When I graduated from Garey High, I never imagined I would be where I am now. The ability to provide these resources that will benefit current and future students is incredibly rewarding,” added Assemblymember Rodriguez.

Assemblymember Rodriguez (Twitter) represents the 53rd Assembly District which includes the cities of Chino, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona, and Upland. He is Chair of the Assembly Committee on Emergency Management.
