SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblymember Michelle Rodriguez (D – Ontario) is proud to announce Assembly Bill (AB) 463, groundbreaking legislation aimed at enhancing care and protections for police canines injured in the line of duty. Under AB 463, emergency medical services would be permitted to transport police canines injured in the line of duty to veterinary clinics, if no human requires medical attention from the ambulance. This legislation recognizes the vital role police canines play in our law enforcement and ensure they receive timely medical care if injured while protecting their communities.

“Police canines are law enforcement officers - they’re regularly placed in dangerous, often life-threatening situations to protect the public,” said Assemblymember Rodriguez. “It’s time we provide them with the care and protections they deserve as dedicated members of our law enforcement teams.”

AB 463 underscores California’s commitment to the wellbeing of all who serve and protect - human and canine alike.
