SACRAMENTO, CA – “I’m proud to announce Governor Newsom has signed my legislation, Assembly Bill 463, into law. By furthering protections for our public safety canines, this bill ensures they receive the dignity and care they deserve. AB 463 strengthens California’s commitment to public safety and emergency response by authorizing emergency medical personnel to transport and provide basic first aid to police canines and search-and-rescue dogs injured in the line of duty,” said Assemblymember Rodriguez (D-Ontario).
“Public safety canines play a critical role in supporting our law enforcement officers, often finding themselves in dangerous situations. Until now, emergency medical personnel were restricted from administering lifesaving care or transport. With this law, we can ensure these courageous animals receive the care they deserve. Thank you to Governor Newsom for recognizing the importance of this legislation. It is long overdue that we extend protections to our law enforcement canines who serve and protect our communities every day.”
