(SACRAMENTO)- Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, D-Pomona, was appointed as Chair of the Assembly Committee on Public Employees, Retirement, and Social Security by Speaker Anthony Rendon today.

“I am honored and excited to serve as Chair of the PERSS Committee and appreciate the trust placed in me by Speaker Rendon. There has been much debate in recent days around CALPERS revising their investment targets and I am ready to hit the ground running in January as the Legislature begins to weigh in on the Boards recent actions,” Rodriguez said. “With its immense investments portfolio of over 300 billion dollars and combined 3 million members receiving pensions and benefits, I look forward to playing an active role in oversight and public accountability. There are many other facets of this committee that we will be addressing come January, including state collective bargaining contracts.”

(SACRAMENTO)-  Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, D-Pomona, and Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes, D-Riverside, introduced Assembly Bill 67 (Rodriguez) to reclassify human trafficking, rape of an unconscious person, and domestic violence including strangulation, as violent felonies. Loopholes within Proposition 57 (2016) classified these crimes as nonviolent, affording some of the most dangerous criminals the sentencing leniency granted under Prop 57, including early parole.

“I want to thank Assemblymember Rodriguez for his leadership. This bill will protect our communities by keeping violent criminals behind bars, and provide victims with the justice and respect that they deserve” said Assemblymember Cervantes. Assemblymember Rodriguez added “The statistics around human trafficking, sexual assaults, and domestic violence are staggering. We should be doing everything in our power to ensure no one ever experiences these heinous crimes, and, where possible, prevent an offender from having the ability to harm others again. This loophole must be closed to protect the people of California and ensure we stand with survivors in their pursuit of justice.”

(SACRAMENTO)- Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez was sworn into his third term in the California State Assembly this afternoon at a ceremony in the State Capitol. Several hundred people were in attendance, including the Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, Secretary of State Alex Padilla, and the other newly elected members of the State Assembly. Rodriquez was joined by this family and friends for the ceremony.

Rodriguez stressed that his top priories for the upcoming legislative session will be the health and safety of people in the 52nd Assembly District, transportation issues on major highways including the widening of the 71 HWY and the extension of the Gold Line, and how public safety agencies can be better supported to do their jobs. Assemblymember Rodriguez has worked hard to bring sensible legislation that protects families and better equips emergency responders and law enforcement with the tools they need to serve communities.

(SACRAMENTO)-  Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, Chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC), introduced today a package of bills to ensure government transparency and workers’ rights at the California State Auditor's Office. The California State Auditor's Office is charged with performing financial and performance audits across state and local government. However, the appointment of the State Auditor has lacked transparency and specific details which Assembly Bill 32 corrects. The bill will require JLAC to select three candidates after conducting a comprehensive search, to be sent to the Governor for consideration. In addition, Assembly Bill 31 extends whistleblower protections to the over 150 employees of the auditor's office.

(SACRAMENTO)- The holiday season was in full swing as Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona) hosted his 4th Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive at his district office in Chino today. Rodriguez partnered with Fontana Water Company and Food 4 Less to donate Turkeys and fixings for a Thanksgiving meal to families in the 52nd Assembly District.

“The holiday season should be about enjoying time with loved ones, but too many families worry about how they are going to put food on the table,” said Rodriguez. “I am proud to be working with our wonderful community partners to help make the holidays a little brighter for the residents of our district.”

(SACRAMENTO) – Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona) issued the following statement regarding LA County Fairplex audit report released by the California State Auditor:

“I am shocked and disturbed by the findings uncovered through my state audit request of the Fairplex. Key findings include millions of dollars lost in revenue, overly compensated executives and disgraceful living conditions for RV Park residents renting space in the area. It's time to bring transparency and accountability to the Fairplex. I look forward to working with Los Angeles County to address the problems found,” said Assemblymember Rodriguez.

(POMONA) – Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona) issued the following statement regarding today’s signing ceremony commemorating the transfer of the Ontario International Airport:

“This is a day of celebration for the City of Ontario and residents of the Inland Empire. This historic agreement transferring control of our airport back to Ontario will bring jobs, opportunities and much needed growth to our economy. I am proud to have contributed to this important and momentous effort,” said Assemblymember Rodriguez.

(POMONA) – On Saturday, October 29, Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez will commemorate the two-year anniversary of Officer Shaun Diamond’s passing by officially dedicating a portion of Interstate 10 in his honor.

Assembly Concurrent Resolution 104, authored by Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona) was unanimously approved by the State Assembly earlier this year. The measure declares I-10 from the SR-57 interchange to the North Towne Avenue exit as the “Pomona Police Officer Shaun Diamond Memorial Highway.”

(SACRAMENTO) – California is poised to create a new generation of lifesavers thanks to Assembly Bill 1719 by Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona). Today Governor Jerry Brown signed the legislation that will require high school districts to include CPR instruction in health education classes required for graduation.    

(SACRAMENTO)-  Today Governor Jerry Brown approved California’s College Promise, a landmark $15 million grant program to help students achieve a college degree or certificate.  Assembly Bill 1741 by Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona) and Assemblymember Patrick O’Donnell (D-Long Beach) creates the California College Promise Innovation Awards, a grant program designed to incentivize the creation of regional college promise programs that promote college readiness and degree attainment.
