Rodriguez introduces legislation to improve police-community relations

Assemblymember Rodriguez introduced two measures designed to strengthen public safety, increase transparency and improve the relationship between police officers and the communities they protect.

Assembly Bill 69 will require all law enforcement officers statewide to wear body cameras on duty.

Assembly Bill 71 will amend current reporting procedures for law enforcement and will require state law enforcement agencies to submit an annual report to the California Department of Justice on all shooting incidents where a peace officer is involved. The report would require statistics on shootings that result in the injury or death of an individual or a peace officer.

Rodriguez Named EMT Of The Year

Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez has been named Emergency Medical Technician of the Year by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority (Cal EMSA). Rodriguez, a 30-year licensed EMT, was selected to receive the honor for his dedication to the EMS profession and for advocating for public policy that benefits the field in the California State Assembly.

Rodriguez Introduces Bill To Prepare Schools For Active Shooter Situations

Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez introduced a measure to improve school safety plans for California’s K-12 public schools. Assembly Bill 58 would require schools to update their school safety plans to include training programs and procedures for individuals with guns and active shooting incidents on school campuses.

Current law requires each school to develop a school safety plan that includes processes, procedures, and policies to ensure student and staff safety at a school site.  The components of the plan range from daily processes, such as procedures for safe arrival and departure of students, parents and school employees; to disaster and emergency procedures such as those during and after earthquakes; to behavioral policies such as discrimination and harassment policies.

Rodriguez Named Chair Of Emergency Management Committee

Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins announced that Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez will serve as Chair of the Joint Assembly/Senate Committee on Emergency Management for the 2015-2016 Legislative Session. The committee’s primary jurisdiction includes disaster preparedness, emergency management, and homeland security issues.

Rodriguez is a 30-year Emergency Medical Technician and assisted as part of the relief efforts during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He previously served as Vice-Chair of the Joint Committee under the leadership of Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and he is the Chair of the Select Committee on Local Emergency Preparedness.

Assemblymember Rodriguez To Hold Open House And Holiday Toy Drive

Freddie Rodriguez will host his 2nd Annual Holiday Open House and Toy Drive at his district office in Chino on Thursday, December 4th.  The public is encouraged to come by the office to meet the Assemblymember and his staff to learn about services provided by the district office and share concerns on legislative issues affecting the 52nd Assembly District.

Rodriguez Hosts 2nd Annual Holiday Turkey Drive

In the spirit of  Thanksgiving, Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez hosted his 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Turkey giveaway in Chino on Tuesday, November 25th. Over 170 turkeys and fixings for a full Thanksgiving meal were given away to local families and organizations benefiting needy families throughout the 52nd Assembly District. The event was made possible by generous donations by the Fontana Water Company, Food 4 Less, Ralphs and Superior Grocers.

Rodriguez Statement On Death Of Pomona SWAT Officer Shaun Diamond

Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez released the following statement on the death of Pomona Police SWAT Officer Shaun Diamond:

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Pomona Police Officer Shaun Diamond.  I worked closely with Shaun for many years when I was on the board of the Downtown Pomona Owner’s Association and he was the officer assigned to the board and the downtown Pomona area. Officer Diamond was a dedicated public servant and his loss will be profoundly felt throughout the community. This terrible tragedy is a reminder of the dangers our police officers face every day on the job in efforts to bravely protect our families, friends and neighbors. My thoughts and prayers are with Officer Diamond’s family, friends and the entire Pomona Police Department."

Rodriguez Calls For Collaborative Ebola Guidelines For Front-Line Medical Staff

Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, a licensed emergency medical technician of 30-years, has issued the following statement regarding Ebola safety and treatment protocols for front-line medical staff:

“Last week, two nurses in Texas tested positive with Ebola after treating Thomas Eric Duncan, the Texas man who died from Ebola on October 8th.
