SACRAMENTO- Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez introduced Assembly Concurrent Resolution 84 to proclaim the week of May 18th through May 24th as Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in California and honor the EMS personnel who dedicate their lives to providing life-saving medical care to others in their time of need.
Emergency Medical Services Week in California will coincide with the 40th Anniversary of National Emergency Medical Services Week. President Gerald Ford signed the first National EMS Week proclamation in 1974 to draw attention to the sacrifice, dedication and commitment of Emergency Medical Personnel.
“I have spent my life working as an Emergency Medical Technician. It was important to me to honor my brothers and sisters in the EMS field and I am proud that my first piece of legislation is dedicated to this,” said Assemblymember Rodriguez. “EMS workers are highly skilled and dedicated emergency room doctors and nurses, EMTs, paramedics, and administrators. Their work saves lives.”
According to the California Emergency Medical Services Authority, there are over 3 million EMS responses each year in California that result in approximately 2.25 million transports to medical facilities. Access to timely and quality medical care has proven to be an important factor in a patient’s survival and recovery from sudden illness or injury.
Assemblymember Rodriguez is planning events both in the district and in Sacramento to commemorate Emergency Medical Services Week.
Assemblymember Rodriguez is the Chair of the Select Committee on Local Emergency Preparedness and the Vice Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management. He represents the 52nd District which includes the cities of Chino, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona and portions of unincorporated Fontana.
