Rodriguez and the California Institution for Men to Provide Free Backpacks to Students

For immediate release:

Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez is partnering with the California Institution for Men in Chino, Echos of Faith World Outreach Ministries and Chino Valley Employees Association to distribute free backpacks and school supplies to local school children in grades K-8. Backpacks will be distributed at the California Institution for Men and finger printing, wall climbing and other activities will be available.

"The Inland Empire is still recovering from the recession and the back-to-school season can be tough financially for many families," said Rodriguez. "Having proper school supplies creates a productive learning environment. I want to do whatever I can to bring some relief to struggling families and help students gain the tools they need to be successful."

500 backpacks and school supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis to children who reside within the 52nd Assembly District. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive a backpack. Parents should bring proof of residency, such as a utility bill, and a current school ID for each child. There is a limit of 2 backpacks per family.
