Rodriguez Announces Ontario Airport Working Group

For immediate release:

Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez today announced the formation of the Ontario Airport Working Group to develop a regional solution to achieve local control of the airport.  Included in the Working Group are Assemblymembers and State Senators from San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles Counties.

“Restoring local control of the Ontario Airport is one of the most important issues to my district and to our region as a whole.  The transfer must happen as soon as possible under terms that will allow Ontario Airport to prosper and attract more flights.  Local control of the airport is essential to develop our regional economy and create jobs in our communities,” said Rodriguez.

“Los Angeles World Airports serve a critical role in our economy, particularly in my district,” said Assemblywoman Autumn R. Burke (D-Los Angeles).  “I’m confident that we can reach an agreement that protects not just the investments we’ve made, but also the jobs at Ontario Airport that hundreds of families depend on.”

“The Los Angeles and Ontario economies are regionally intertwined.  A solution can be reached only through an approach that respects both interests,” said Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez. “The formation of this working group is essential to provide the needed momentum to arrive at a mutually acceptable agreement on Ontario Airport.”

“It is time that this issue is resolved.  We look forward to working with our Federal representatives and the Cities of Ontario and Los Angeles to find a solution that is mutually agreeable and beneficial,” said Rodriguez.
