Rodriguez Appointed to the National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council

For immediate release:

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced this week that Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez has been appointed to the National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (NEMSAC). The council is made up of 25 appointees who represent the EMS Stakeholder Community including patients and the general public.

“I am deeply honored to have been appointed to the National EMS Advisory Council,” said Rodriguez. “Being a first responder is my passion. I work hard to be a voice for the EMS industry in the California State Assembly and I am ready to bring my knowledge and experience to Washington.”

Assemblymember Rodriguez has been a licensed Emergency Medical Technician for over 30 years. He still works part-time as he serves in the State Assembly. Because of his EMS background, he was appointed Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management and the Select Committee on Local Emergency Preparedness.

The NEMSAC provides expert advice and recommendations to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Office of EMS and its federal partners on key issues such as data collection, performance measurement, and the EMS workforce.

Appointees assume a two-year term effective immediately. The Council meets three times per year to discuss its recommendations; the first meeting of the new Council will take place in the summer of 2015.
