Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez and Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez (D-Los Angeles) released the following statements on the historic agreement between the cities of Los Angeles and Ontario to transfer control of Ontario International Airport back to the City of Ontario:
“Today is a historic and long-awaited day for the city of Ontario,” said Assemblymember Rodriguez. “Restoring local control of Ontario Airport has been my top priority and I am thrilled to see this day finally realized. I want to commend Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti for working with all of us who represent Ontario to reach a mutually agreeable solution.
I also want to thank Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez for his partnership on our Assembly Bill 1455. I am pleased that our bill played a role in facilitating today’s agreement and demonstrating the unanimous, bipartisan statewide support for the transfer of the Airport. Today truly is a great day for Ontario.”
“Today’s announcement is a long awaited step in the economic recovery of the Inland Empire and the entire Southern California region,” said Assemblymember Gomez. “I am pleased to have played a role in working with Assemblymember Rodriguez and Mayor Garcetti in pressing this issue to a successful conclusion.”
Assemblymembers Rodriguez and Gomez authored Assembly Bill 1455. The intent of the legislation was to encourage the cities of Los Angeles and Ontario to come to an agreement on the transfer of the airport. The bill was co-authored by broad, bipartisan coalition of 30 members of both the Senate and Assembly and was approved by the State Assembly on a vote of 75-0, demonstrating the statewide support for the transfer of the airport.
Assemblymember Rodriguez represents the 52nd Assembly District which includes the cities of Chino, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona and portions of unincorporated Fontana.
