Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management, will hold an informational hearing on the December 2, 2015 incident at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino. The hearing will take place on Friday, March 18th at 10:00 am at the San Bernardino County Government Center in San Bernardino. The subject of the hearing is “The San Bernardino Shooting; Lessons Learned.”

“Tragedy struck our community on December 2nd  and the emergency responders from throughout the Inland Empire performed heroically,” said Rodriguez. “Reviewing the emergency response after a major incident such as this is important. I want to hear directly from the first responders to find out what went well, what could have been done better and how we can improve emergency preparedness across the state.”

Among those scheduled to testify are:

  • John McMahon, San Bernardino County Sheriff
  • Michael Madden, San Bernardino County Sheriff and first to arrive on the scene
  • Michael Neeki MD, emergency room doctor at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and member of the SWAT team (profiled in this CNN story)

On December 2, 2015 two gunman entered a San Bernardino County Department of Public Health holiday party at the Inland Regional Center killing 14 and injuring 22 others. The incident was later found to be an act of terrorism.

The Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management, Chaired by Assemblymember Rodriguez, holds informational hearings to determine how California’s emergency response system can be improved to prepare for incidents. Previous hearings have investigated hospital surge capacity; earthquake preparedness; and drones interfering with emergency responders.
