(SACRAMENTO) - A portion of Interstate 10 in Pomona is a step closer to being named after fallen Pomona SWAT Office Shaun Diamond today after a vote in the Senate Transportation Committee approves the measure in honor of Officer Diamond. Assembly Concurrent Resolution 104, authored by Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona), will declare I-10 from the SR-57 interchange to the North Towne Avenue exit as the "Pomona Police Officer Shaun Diamond Memorial Highway."
"Officer Diamond was a dedicated officer and an honorable man," said Rodriguez. "I knew him for many years and his absence continues to be felt throughout our community. This highway not only honors his courage and hard work, but will also be a long-term commemoration of his sacrifice and dedication to helping others."
Officer Diamond died on October 29, 2014, one day after he was shot while serving a search warrant in San Gabriel that was related to an investigation into outlaw motorcycle gangs. He was in law enforcement for sixteen years, and served with the Pomona Police Department for eight of those years.
"My dad was a dedicated police officer who strived continuously to make the world a better place through his community service," said Margo Diamond, Officer Diamond's daughter. "My family and I are so thankful to have the opportunity to share his legacy with others and I know he would be proud to share his name in this way."
ACR 104 will next be heard in the Senate Appropriations Committee.
