Rodriguez Statement on Dallas Shooting

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO)- Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona) released the following statement today on the tragic shooting of 11 police officers and 1 civilian last night in Dallas, Texas:

“I am heartbroken and saddened over the tragic events that occurred last night in Dallas. Officers were deliberately targeted because they were doing their job to serve and protect the public. Tragically, five of them will not be going home to their families.

My son is a law enforcement officer and I have spent my 30-year career as an emergency medical technician working side by side with these brave men and women. They put their lives on the line every day so that we can be safe and they need our support.

This has been a sad week for our nation and too many families are grieving. Our safety depends upon trust between law enforcement and the communities they protect. That trust has eroded. This is a time where we must come together and listen to one another with compassion and understanding. I am praying for peace, I am praying for the families across the country that have lost loved ones, and I am praying for the officers who serve and protect us every day.”
