(SACRAMENTO)- Today, Governor Edmund G. Brown unveiled his 2017-18 California State Budget May Revise proposals in Sacramento. Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, D-Pomona, Chair of the PERSS Committee responded with the following comments on healthcare, transportation, and more:
“As Congressional Republicans and the Trump Administration continue to push a dangerous healthcare bill and an agenda that targets the poor and working class, California Democrats are stronger than ever and ready to protect our values. I applaud Governor Brown for presenting a balanced budget that does just that.
California will continue to fight for affordable, high-quality healthcare accessible for everyone. I support the Governor's goals of fully embracing the Affordable Care Act. Thousands of middle to low-income families in my district have benefited from this coverage, leading to more financial security and healthier families.
Democrats took necessary action in April to fix our crumbling roads and highways. I am committed to getting $30 million for the expansion of the Metro Foothill Gold Line to Montclair. The inland Empire is in urgent need of additional public transportation lines to ease congestion and improve air quality.
I am proud to stand with Governor Brown in restoring child care and preschool provider payment rates. Mitigation of the IHSS cost sharing is also critical to ensuring the valuable services counties already provide are not disrupted. We can do more to support the low-income families that rely on these programs and this is a significant step in that direction.
Lastly, in our oversight role of the University of California, I am eager to see the Office of the President make significant reforms to their budgetary and accounting practices to bring them in line with the values of California. Without a genuine commitment to reform, I will seriously question the University’s leadership.”
