(SACRAMENTO)- Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona) and the California State Legislature today approved an on-time and balanced state budget for the 7th year in a row. This $127.5 billion funding plan takes significant strides to protect California against potential future economic downturns while remaining focused on building the middle class and growing vital services. Rodriguez issued the following statement after voting in support of the budget.
“I am proud to have supported this budget today. After significant consultation with, and feedback from my constituents, this budget will lift families into the middle class. We are increasing the qualifying Earned Income Tax Credit income to $22,000 and strengthening health care for thousands in the 52nd Assembly District. In higher education, we are taking measures to rein in spending at the University of California headquarters while enrolling 1,500 California residents and making a guarantee that if you work hard to get into a California State University, there will be a seat for you. Additionally, we are saving the Middle-Class Scholarship, which our communities received the highest amount of awards across the state.”
The budget now heads to Governor Jerry Brown for signature.
