Rodriguez Applauds $290 Million State Investment in Gold Line Foothill Extension Project

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO)- Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (52- Pomona) applauds the California State Transportation Agency’s announcement that $290.2 million will be awarded to the Metro Gold Line Foothill Light Rail Extension Project to bring the Gold Line to Montclair. Receiving funds from the States Cap-and-Trade program and Senate Bill 1, the joint Glendora to Montclair extension project between LA Metro, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, and the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority has been fully funded by the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP).

“Last year I authored Assembly Bill 215 to highlight the need for the Gold Line Extension into my community. Today, with this announcement, we see Senate Bill 1 funding coming into the 52nd Assembly District for a much-needed light rail project that will transform our community. Over 12 new miles of light rail service will be constructed into Montclair, growing service to millions of new riders, removing pollutants from our air, and reducing congestion on our freeways. This is a huge investment in the Inland Empire that will benefit our businesses, workers, and families working hard every day to build a more sustainable and prosperous region.”

Population centers around the Gold Line Foothill Extension project are expected to grow 20 percent over the next two decades, increasing demand on public transportation and existing transit routes significantly. The Gold Line currently serves nearly 12 million boarding’s per day and has significantly reduces harmful greenhouse gas emissions in our community. More information on the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Project can be found here.

In January, Assemblymember Rodriguez sent a letter to the Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency supporting the Gold Line Extension Application. That letter is available here.
