Statement on Legislative Approval of the 2021-22 State Budget

(Sacramento) – Today, Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D- Pomona), Chair of the Committee on Emergency Management, issued the following statement after the Legislature approved the 2021-22 State Budget:

“This year’s approved State Budget shows California’s commitment to strengthening the future in all aspects. With increased funding for both our K-12 students and those pursuing higher education, I am delighted to invest in our state’s future leaders. We are also investing in families by providing direct relief checks to help with fuel prices, food costs, and more,” said Assemblymember Rodriguez.

“As Chair of the Committee on Emergency Management, I am proud of our investments to improve the state’s response efforts. For wildfire response, this year’s budget appropriates $96 million to CalFire for the acquisition of four S70i Fire Hawk helicopters so that our firefighters can approach these mega-fires that are increasing in frequency from all angles. Additionally, this year’s budget provides an ongoing $17.1 million for the California Early Earthquake Warning System. As you know, we are overdue for another major earthquake. I am pleased to see our state preparing for these disasters rather than waiting until it is too late and we have to deal with the preventable loss of lives and infrastructure.”
