(Sacramento, CA) – Today, Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D – Pomona) honored the 53rd Assembly District’s 2023 Woman of the Year, Diane Smyers, on the Assembly Floor. As a Donor Relations Manager for the non-profit CASA of San Bernardino County, Diane plays a critical role in engaging our community to help children within the foster care system. She is a resident of Upland, is passionate about helping others, and serves with humility.
“Each year, it is such a pleasure to recognize a woman of distinction from our district up here in Sacramento. As I have now gained Upland as a part of my newly-drawn district, it is extra special to recognize an Upland resident as Woman of the Year for the first time,” stated Assemblymember Rodriguez.
Women were selected from each Assembly District across the State and came together to celebrate this special recognition and all the contributions each of them has made to their communities.
The California Legislative Women’s Caucus led today’s special floor ceremony, “California Woman Making Herstory,” to provide time to honor each woman recognized by their local Assemblymember. Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry also presented a resolution in honor of Women’s History Month, which I am proud to co-author.
“I want to thank Diane Smyers for all she has done to help foster youth in the 53rd Assembly District. Your work can be life-changing, and our community is better off for your dedication to service. I also want to thank the Women’s Caucus for planning this special day of celebration,” added Assemblymember Rodriguez.
Assemblymember Rodriguez (Twitter) represents the 53rd Assembly District which includes the cities of Chino, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona, and Upland. He is Chair of the Assembly Committee on Emergency Management.
