(Sacramento, CA) – Today, CalNonprofits hosted its 8th Annual Nonprofits of the Year Luncheon at the State Capitol. Each year, members of the California State Legislature are provided an opportunity to honor a nonprofit from their district. This year, Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez (D –Pomona) welcomed Ontario-Montclair Schools Foundation Promise Scholars as the 53rd Assembly District’s 2023 Nonprofit of the Year.
“I am honored to recognize Ontario-Montclair Schools Foundation Promise Scholars as the Nonprofit of the Year for the 53rd Assembly District. The Promise Scholars program supports and encourages students to pursue higher education. I, too, am committed to ensuring our future leaders have the tools needed to make their dreams a reality and want to thank this organization for their dedication to OMSD students,” stated Assemblymember Rodriguez.
Through Promise Scholars, stakeholders, including students, parents, educators, businesses, and local leaders, work together to introduce students to the opportunities available after high school. This provides them with the necessary support and guidance to navigate their academic journey.
Since its establishment in 2011, Promise Scholars has expanded with a staff of AmeriCorps members, 35 school sites, various colleges, partner businesses, organizations, and volunteers who share their “college knowledge” and encourage local students to pursue higher education. The program has grown in capacity to serve over 20,000 students and 1,000 parents each year. Students are guaranteed enrollment at one of nine partner college institutions.
Assemblymember Rodriguez (Twitter) represents the 53rd Assembly District which includes the cities of Chino, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona, and Upland. He is Chair of the Assembly Committee on Emergency Management.
