(Sacramento, CA).- Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez, (D-Pomona), Chair of the Assembly Committee on Public Employees, Retirement, and Social Security, spoke to first responders during an Informational Hearing titled " The Verizon Wireless "Data Throttling" on Mendocino Complex Firefighters' Internet Access" about their need for unrestricted access to internet services during an emergency response, such as a wildfire or earthquake. Recent reports highlighted that Verizon throttled data speeds when a data cap had been reached. This prevented normal and expected operation of equipment deployed to fight California wildfires. Assemblymmember Rodriguez shared his intention to work on legislation in the future to help ensure data throttling does not prevent future incidents during a disaster.
